Summary

The Cancer Genetics Risk Assessment Program at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a motivated, board-certified genetic counselor to join a busy team that supports Ascension Indiana cancer genetics services. We have two full time CGCs, as well as a GCA and dedicated front office staff. We work closely with gynecologic oncology, gastroenterology, oncology, pediatric oncology, surgeons and primary care physicians to provide high quality genetic counseling services, with the Ascension mission to provide equitable care for all. We work with genetic counselor extenders in three other sites across the state, triaging patients and providing telegenetics to those who need to meet with a CGC. Our team is responsible for the cancer genetics course at the Indiana University Genetic Counseling training program, and we serve as a clinical rotation site for genetic counseling graduate students. Opportunities for community education, program development and research are also available.


 

What You Will Do

As a Genetic Counselor with St. Vincent Health Indiana, you will have the opportunity to provide genetic counseling to patients and counseling and coordination services for other screening programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies families at risk for genetic disorders, children with birth defects, or a variety of other inherited conditions. Analyzes inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence.
  • Interprets complex genetic and laboratory data/test results. Communicates findings with physician.
  • Assists patients with navigation of financial aspects associated with genetic testing.
  • Assists with diagnosing genetic problems and develops short and long term genetic counseling plans.

What You Will Need

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Genetics/Genetic Counseling from ABGC-accredited genetic counseling training program
  • Minimum two years of experience in genetic counseling, cancer related experience preferred.


Licensure, Certification, and Registration

  • Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics
  • Current Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Licensure in the state of Indiana will be required within 3 months of on-boarding
