What You Will Do

The Endocrine Inpatient Nurse Practitioner in an expanded role as a professional medical provider who, working collaboratively with the physician, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients in an inpatient setting. Care is provided to patients with Diabetes and Endocrine disorders. He/She works with interdisciplinary team of hospitalists, other specialists, nurses and administrative support staff to assess patient conditions, educate patients and family members about medical options, prescribe medications and treatments, and perform other duties with focus on clinical excellence and patient satisfaction. Must demonstrate professionalism, an advanced level of clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration while displaying the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct. 

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains comprehensive health history: perform physical examination on new admissions and document/dictate in patient record.
  • Performs and/or participates in rounds of hospitalized patients, including physical assessment, interpretation of diagnostic studies, interaction with nursing staff and documentation in medical record.
  • Facilitates communication between office and hospital.
  • Orders (verbal or written) common diagnostic studies, laboratory studies and pharmacologic treatment modalities according to written protocol in collaboration with the physician.
  • Consults other physicians and members of the healthcare team and agencies in collaboration with the physician
  • Facilitates the discharge process and dictate discharge summary.
  • Discusses medical plan/education with patient/family. Serve as a liaison between physicians and patient/family as needed to enhance communication and understanding

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):
    • Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing .  
    • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing .  
  • Preferred Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA). 
    • Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration. 

Education:

  • Diploma 
    • Master's degree of Nursing required

Work Experience:

  • None required.
