6:30PM - 6:30AM with weekend and holiday requirements.

Endovascular surgery

Ascension St. John Hospital is seeking a Endovascular surgery Physician Assistant due to a growth in surgical volume.  This is a part-time (24-hours per week) midnight position consisting of inpatient duties. The APP will be working with board certified neurosurgeons and endovascular surgeons from multiple practices to provide care after surgery/post intervention.  The expertise of the surgeons range from cerebrovascular procedures to reconstructive/degenerative spinal disorders as well as encompassing the neurotrauma population. The current cadre of Neurosurgery and Endovascular APP’s includes a spectrum of experienced staff ranging from 20+ years to new graduates.

  • Pre and Post OR/IR care for craniotomy, spinal fusions, discectomy, and stroke intervention.
  • Midnight, one 12-hour shift per week required.
  • APP’s will support surgeons 24/hours a day 7 days/week including holidays and weekends within the hospital setting
  • Full and comprehensive benefit package provided including malpractice coverage

What You Will Do

As an associate with Ascension-MI, you will have the opportunity to provide direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services under the supervision of a physician.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.
  • Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.
  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:
  • Required Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
    • Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
    • Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
  • Preferred Credential(s):
    • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA). 
Education:
  • Diploma 
    • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program Master's degree preferred
Work Experience:
  • 1 year of experience preferred.
