Program Description: The Kids in Cars (KIC) program goal is to increase access and provide child passenger safety services in a five-county region (Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, Williamson) in Central Texas. Through a team of trained Child Passenger Safety Technicians, community partners, and volunteers, the program aids children and caregivers with selecting, positioning, installing, harnessing, and educating on best practices with child safety seats. The project coordinator is part of a team that organizes, conducts, and evaluates program objectives

What You Will Do

Program Description: The Kids in Cars (KIC) program goal is to increase access and provide child passenger safety services in a five-county region (Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, Williamson) in Central Texas. Through a team of trained Child Passenger Safety Technicians, community partners, and volunteers, the program aids children and caregivers with selecting, positioning, installing, harnessing, and educating on best practices with child safety seats. The project coordinator is part of a team that organizes, conducts, and evaluates program objectives

Responsibilities:

Based on the locally-developed functional job description the duties of the role include:

  • providing child passenger safety services to families throughout the target region
  • coordinating planning and logistics for child safety seat check-up events,
  • assisting child passenger safety technicians,
  • establishing and maintaining relationships with community partners,
  • distribution of literature and information,
  • ordering and re-supplying child safety seats and supplies for operations,
  • receiving shipments,
  • promoting the program through various media outlets,
  • training Child Passenger Safety Technicians,
  • tracking program metrics and grant budgets, and conducting program evaluation.

 

What You Will Need

Education:

  • Diploma 
    • High school diploma or GED required
    • College degree in Health related field preferred (MPH, Health Promotor, etc.)

Work Experience:

  • None required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred
  • Public speaking experience
  • Organization, event/project planning and implementation experience
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor Certification preferred but able to train
  • Texas Driver License: clean driving record required

Other Position Details:

  • Requires local travel (approx. 75%)
  • Working inside vehicles
  • Working outside in heat and cold and in other weather conditions
  • Lifting/moving equipment and supplies (<30 lbs.)
  • Operating the KKIC event van (majority of local travel in this)
