It is home to over 200 live music venues, as many as 2,000 bands and performing artists, and music, film, and interactive festivals, including Austin City Limits (ACL) and SXSW. U.S. News & World Report named Austin the best place to live in the U.S. in 2017. As the capital of Texas and the 11th largest city in the United States, Austin was recently named the fastest growing large city in the United States. Austin is an active city with a lush environment highlighted by parks, lakes, and trails, with a great climate, made for outdoor enjoyment and recreation nearly year-round. Deep in the heart of Texas, Austin enjoys the benefit shared by only a few other states in the US of no state income tax.
As the unofficial slogan “Keep Austin Weird,” Austin has the largest urban bat colony in North America, (which helps lower the mosquito and insect population). Austin prides itself on its food truck scene, amazing tacos and awesome patio happy hours. It is also ranked one of the most dog-friendly cities in the world.
