St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital
St. Vincent’s St. Clair hospital is in Pell City, AL. It is a 40-bed medical and surgical hospital located approximately 45 minutes from downtown Birmingham and is easily accessible directly off of Interstate 20. The hospital also provides general emergency care on site as well as supporting same day surgery, advanced wound care and pain management services. As St. Clair County’s local healthcare expert, the hospital is committed to keeping this tight knit community well.

As a dedicated health care provider and member hospital of the Birmingham Ministry of facilities, St. Vincent’s St. Clair Pharmacy is committed to providing the highest level of professionalism and expertise to our medical and nursing staffs to support the care of our patients.
Pharmacist Responsibilities :
As a Pharmacist with St. Vincent's Health System-AL, you will verify the appropriate selection, preparation, dosing, duration, administration, and dispensing of medication orders.
Reviews and assesses medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve unwanted potential and actual drug-related reactions, contraindications, side effects and/or formulary non-adherence. Effectively communicates information and recommends formulary alternatives when appropriate.
Orders, reconciles, wastes, receives and signs into inventory Controlled Substance medications following all Federal/State/Hospital regulations and processes.
Participates and represents Pharmacy in Interdisciplinary Team Rounds and daily meetings.
Supports Pharmacy Department responsibilities including answering phones and drug
related questions, as well as providing PYXIS support and order entry/electronic medical record support.
Performs pharmacokinetic calculations and appropriately doses medications based on calculations, lab values and patient-specific considerations.
Reviews and appropriately intervenes on drug therapies directed for clinical review
Compounds and dispenses medications, oversees and verifies appropriate compounding techniques by technician staff, including adherence to all federal/state and local regulations.
Communicates with physicians, nursing staff and other members of the patient care team as necessary to facilitate patient care.
Oversees technician staff who assist in the preparation, maintenance, ordering, stocking and dispensing of medications and supplies.
Assists with academic functions, including precepting rotation students/interns.
Provides patient counseling and discharge counseling efficiently and with empathy.
Assists with preparation of discharge prescriptions including identifying community pharmacies as well as assisting with drug selection in terms of I.V. to P.O. conversions, specialty drugs or medications requiring Prior Authorizations.
What you will need:
Registered Pharmacist License from the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. License is to be active and in good standing.
Parenteral Certification recognized or issued by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy
Active Preceptor License issued by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy
Work Experience preferred:
Employment for at least one to three years in a pharmacy practice setting
Communication experience with colleagues, medical providers as well as with patients/ customers demonstrating mastery of drug knowledge and ability to share information across all education levels and abilities
Management of employees, inventory and / or budget(s) including reporting duties, projection planning, scheduling responsibilities and financial results review
