What You Will Do

Who are we?

The Peyton Manning Surgery and Procedure Center is a surgery center within St Vincent Hospital, serving the patients of Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.   We provide pre and post-surgical and anesthesia care to both outpatients and inpatients ages 0 through 17 years.  The surgery center is highly specialized in the care and treatment of children before and after surgery in a child-friendly environment. We are passionate about what we do and are committed to making the surgical experience easier and less stressful for patient and caregiver. 

As an RN in this area, you will provide direct nursing care and education for both the pre and post-operative phases.  The preoperative phase includes the establishment of the patient’s baseline assessment, carrying out preoperative interview with patient and family, and preparing the patient for the anesthetic to be given and the surgery.   The postoperative phase of the surgical experience extends from the time the patient is transferred to the recovery room or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) to the time he or she is transported to the inpatient unit or discharged from the hospital.  You will perform careful assessments and immediate interventions in assisting the patient to recover quickly, safely and as comfortably as possible.

The Peyton Manning Surgery and Procedure Center also provides comprehensive care for pediatric patients needing infusion care services such as injections, transfusions, IV infusion therapy.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide direct nursing care for patients in the pre and post-operative period
  • Prepare and educate patients/families for procedure and discharge
  • Evaluate patient responses to treatments and interventions
  • Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate through post-anesthesia recovery
  • Work collaboratively with team members
  • Follow guidelines according to the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN)

Excellent multi-tasking and communication skills are necessary

A desire to provide excellent customer service is preferred

Flexibility in schedule is also a must

Hours of operation: M-F from 0530-1900.  Weekend and holiday call is required.

 

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):
    • One or more of the following:
      • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. 
      • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. 
      • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 
      • Registered Nurse credentialed from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 

Education:

  • Diploma 
    • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.

Work Experience:

  • None required.
  • Prefer experience in Pediatrics
