What You Will Do

As an Associate with Wheaton Franciscan-WI, you will have the opportunity to perform forensic examinations of individuals who have been sexually assaulted and provides related patient care and referrals.

Responsibilities:

  • Takes a medical history and account of the assault from the patient. Assesses the patient's psychological condition and performs physical examination.
  • Collects and preserves all evidence, collects relevant specimens and documents findings.
  • Provides direct nursing care of injuries and prophylactic medications. Refers to appropriate personnel/facility for further treatment as necessary.
  • Communicates with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations and reporting to law enforcement (except in cases of mandated reporting). Provides victim advocacy and/or expert testimony in court trials.

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:
  • Required Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date. 
    • Certification specializing in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner credentialed from the International Association of Forensic Nurses obtained within 24 Months (2 years) of hire date or job transfer date. 
    • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Licensure from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing OR current home state license if considered multi-state/Compact State.
Education:
  • Diploma 
    • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required

  • None required.
