What You Will Do

As an associate with Ascension-Michigan, you will have the opportunity to provide behavioral health counseling services.

This position consists of the following clinical duties: 

  • Conducting brief evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches for behavioral health disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression, substance use, etc.), medical conditions (e.g., chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes management, etc.), and lifestyle change (e.g., weight management, tobacco cessation, exercise, etc.) in primary care setting

  • Identifying, selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological testing/screening measures appropriate for a primary care patient population

  • Completing documentation of visits in the EHR

  • Consulting and communicating with referring primary care medical providers

  • Case Management responsibilities 

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts patient assessments and establishes therapy treatment goals.
  • Administers individual and group therapy. Maintains thorough and confidential records of observations.
  • Evaluates progress and effectiveness of therapy interventions.
  • Provides patient with information regarding resources and therapeutic activities in the community.
  • Works directly with the patient, family, physician and community providers to ensure active and collaborate care from the initiation of treatment to the time of discharge.

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:
  • Required Credential(s):
    • One or more of the following:
      • Licensed Master Social Worker credentialed from the Michigan Board of Social Work obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
      • Licensed Counselor credentialed from the Michigan Board of Counseling obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
      • Licensed Psychologist credentialed from the Michigan Board of Psychology obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
      • Therapist specializing in Marriage & Family obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Any issuing authority accepted. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
  • Preferred Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA). 
Education:
  • Diploma 
    • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science, or Psychology required
Work Experience:
  • None required.
