What You Will Do

As an Associate with Seton Family of Hospitals-TX, you will have the opportunity to assure the appropriate selection, dosing, administering, and dispensing of medication orders in specialized areas, such as nuclear medicine, oncology, cardiology. Serves as a subject matter expert in pharmacy discipline and provides guidance across pharmacies and to clinical leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and assesses medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems.
  • Recommends formulary alternatives when appropriate.
  • Compounds and dispenses medications for accurate delivery to patients. Provides drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Communicates with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.
  • Oversees technical personnel who assist in the preparation, maintenance, and dispensing of medications and supplies.
  • Assists with academic functions such as serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students. May float to provide coverage of pharmacy needs. Provides patient counseling when required.

What You Will Need

Requirements & Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Texas license or eligibility of Texas licensure as a pharmacist

  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 program 

  • Currently completing or completed PGY-2 in pediatric pharmacy or Fellowship in neonatal pharmacy

  • Board Certified in Pediatric Pharmacy (preferred)

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (preferred)

Within Ascension Seton there are several Neonatal ICUs, including Level III at Ascension Seton Medical Center, Level IV at Dell Children’s Medical Center, and Level II at Ascension Seton Northwest, Ascension Seton Williamson, and Ascension Seton Hays. This position will be responsible for providing onsite clinical pharmacy services at Ascension Seton Medical Center and Dell Children’s Medical Center; and clinical pharmacy support remotely to the Level II NICUs. In addition, the position is responsible for standardizing pharmacy services  and medication safety across Ascension Seton for NICU and OB/L&D. Other responsibilities include providing education for clinical pharmacists and NICU providers, supporting the pharmacy residency and student programs, committee participation, quality improvement and clinical research. This position does require travel between hospitals. 

 About Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin NICU:

 

  • 46 NICU beds; average daily census is 30

  • Level III

  • 15 Neonatologists

  • 25 NNPs

  • Delivers over 5000 babies annually

 About Dell Children’s Medical Center NICU:

 

  • 32 NICU beds; average daily census is 24

  • Level IV

  • 15 Neonatologists

  • 24 NNPs

  • 350 admissions

 

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):
    • Pharmacist credentialed from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy .  

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy required Pharmacy residency preferred

Work Experience:

  • None required.
