New Graduate (RN) - Saint Thomas Health Nurse Residency - Summer 2020

We Are Hiring

Nurse Residency program is specifically designed for new Graduates and RNs with less than six months of experience in the acute care setting. 


Currently Accepting Applications for Summer (July 2020) Cohort. Application Deadline is April 6th. 


We offer Residency at the following locations:

  • Saint Thomas Midtown
  • Saint Thomas West
  • Saint Thomas Rutherford
  • Saint Thomas Regionals (Stones River, Highlands, Riverpark, Dekalb)

Specialty Tracks offered:

  • Acute Care (Medical/Surgical)
  • Critical Care (ICU/Stepdown)
  • Emergency Services (ED)
  • Surgical Services (OR)
  • Women Services
  • Cardiac

What You Will Do

As an Associate with Ascension Saint Thomas, you will have the opportunity to

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.


  • Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
  • Admits patients to NIC holding unit, performing assessments and completing required documentation per policy. Educates patient and family members regarding scheduled procedures and surrounding events.
  • Follows established procedures for performing non-invasive cardiac diagnostic testing and cardio versions. Thoroughly assesses the patient and their history so that appropriate data can be acquired and appropriate testing can be performed.
  • Notifies proceduralist of findings that warrant attention prior to the procedures. Provides care to patents post procedure, implementing physician orders and readying patients for discharge or transfer to an impatient bed.

What You Will Need


  • Required Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 
    • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or current home state license for multi-state license recognition "Compact State" obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 


  • Diploma 
    • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required
