About Occupational Health
 
At Ascension, our occupational health service teams examine how your employees' professional environment and personal health can affect their on-the-job performance. We make on-site visits to your workplace to ensure employee safety, and make recommendations to help prevent potential injuries.  Our goal is to treat each patient with dignity and respect, to gather and communicate information thoughtfully, and to restore patients to health with compassion.
 
We offer a wide range of services, including:
  • Possible fractures requiring x-rays
  • Lacerations requiring sutures
  • Foreign object in eyes
  • Chemical exposures/blood and body fluid exposures
  • Muscle strains
  • Back pain
  • Joint pain
  • Drug screenings/alcohol testing:
  • Medical Review Officer (MRO) evaluation
  • Five and ten-panel drug screens
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals
 
 What you will do:
 
As an Associate with St. Vincent's Health System-AL, you will have the opportunity to determine and verify insurance coverage and coordination of benefits from all sources for assigned area. Ensure proper adequate and timely billing to ensure prompt payment.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Confirms insurance coverage. Determines necessity for pre-authorization and obtains authorization for scheduled procedures.
  • Determines financial responsibility for services to be provided. Notifies patients and/or practitioners of any services requested and/or referred that are not authorized by insurance.
  • Communicates with patients and practitioners regarding financial responsibility and insurance coverage issues.
  • Maintains detailed documentation in the patient account record of all billing activities. Maintains documentation of claims processed as part of the daily claims reconciliation process.
  • Prepares and completes claims for commercial insurance companies, third party organizations and/or government or self payers.
  • Researches, analyzes and reconciles Medicare/Medicaid billing and reimbursement practices.
  • Maintains detailed documentation in the patient account record of all billing activities. Maintains documentation of claims processed as part of the daily claims reconciliation process.
  • Consults with appropriate parties to resolve unbilled claims. Reviews recent accounts for proper billing practices and reimbursement.
What you will need:
 
Education:
  • Diploma 
    • High school diploma or GED required
Work Experience Preferred:
  • At least 5 years of experience in  
  • Workers Compensation billing, DOT Physical and Drug Screens.  
  • Understanding of CPT, ICD-10 and coding knowledge, certification preferred
  • Understanding of Explanation of Benefits (EOB)  
  • Knowledge of EHR and medical terminology preferred 
  • Knowledge of working denials, filing appeals and corrected claims/invoices.
  • Professional communication skills that is both respectful and clear  
  • Dedicated, responsible, positive, and professional demeanour  
  • Strong Communication Skills at all organizational levels  
  • Strong customer service skills and interpersonal skills  
  • Able to effectively manage a variety of tasks concurrently  
  • Ability to collect for healthcare claims, contracted facilities, and individuals
