Senior Director, Nursing Center of Excellence 

The Ascension Nursing Center of Excellence (COE) leads the organization with innovative thought and design thinking to render solutions within our healthcare system in an agile way. Collaboratively with the local markets and the Ascension Nursing COE, through innovative stewardship, seeks to assess the current state of healthcare in the perspective of a caregiver and an administrator to provide best practice recommendations. The Senior Director of the Ascension Nursing Center of Excellence will specifically have the opportunity to lead and direct key initiatives related to the priorities of the seven pillars of the Ascension Nursing Center of Excellence vision to modernize current practices and meet the needs of the ever-changing and growing healthcare environment.

What You Will Do

Demonstrates virtuous servant leadership, management accountability and decision-making authority to develop, inform, and implement broad strategies and policies according to the vision of the Ascension Nursing Center of Excellence exemplified in our ambition: to be the best place to practice nursing by transforming how we care for ourselves and others.


  • Provides leadership team guidance to develop solutions, operationalize strategies, and collaborate with the Ascension Nursing Center of Excellence leaders, clinical and non-clinical leaders. 

  • Develops goals, plans, and standards consistent with clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the department.

  • Prepares operational and departmental budgets and ensures compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

  • Directs and evaluates departmental activities to achieve performance and quality control objectives. Tracks and ensures adherence to the Ascension Nursing Center of Excellence scorecard and productivity standards.

What You Will Need


  • Master's Degree 

Work Experience:

  • 7 years of experience required
  • 10 years of experience preferred
  •  10 years of leadership or management experience preferred
  • A self-starter who demonstrates a high level of independent judgment and individual initiative

  • Displays diverse leadership qualities with ability to confidently and authentically communicate with colleagues and senior leaders to inspire, motivate, and collaborate successfully

  • Exceptional interpersonal and team-building skills with executive presence and ability to influence across all levels of an organization

  • Superior conceptual, analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to draw insights from complex datasets to inform decision making

  • A detail-oriented and highly-organized structured thinker who possess exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, complex work environment

  • Experience working in agile methodologies preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written & verbal) in an organized and knowledgeable manner

  • Experience in conducting secondary and/or primary research, understanding competitive positioning, analyzing trends, and building business cases to support value creation

  • Able to travel
