What You Will Do

The Children’s Blood and Cancer Center, which is part of the Dell Children’s Medical Center, has an excellent opportunity for an inpatient Pediatric Oncology Nurse Practitioner. In this key role, you will be responsible for providing nursing and medical services to patients in the Division of Hematology-Oncology. Services include but are not limited to ordering, conducting and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies in a cost efficient manner. Works autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage clients’ health care problems. Serve as health care resources, interdisciplinary consultants and patient advocates. Demonstrates commitment to patient and family focused model of care.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.

What You Will Need

FOR NPs

***YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY OBTAINED THE ACUTE CARE CERTIFICATION UPON APPLYING FOR THIS POSITION***

 

Nurse Practitioner

Required Credential(s):

* Acute Care Certification

• Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing.

• Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing.

 

Preferred Credential(s):

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).

• Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

 

Education:

• Master's degree of Nursing required

 

Physician Assistant

Required Credential(s):

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

• Licensed Physician Assistant credentialed from the Texas Medical Board.

• Certified Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

 

Preferred Credential(s):

• Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).

 

Education:

• Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program

• Master's degree preferred

 

Work Experience for both APRN and PA:

  • 1plus years pediatric hemetology/oncology or BMT experience
