During this time, Ascension is working with traditional and non-traditional suppliers and manufacturers to source needed supplies. Along with the implementation of PPE conservation measures, Ascension is prioritizing the quick turnaround of PPE from our warehouses to sites of care to help us meet the demand for supplies at our facilities.
Our infection control specialists are working closely with the CDC and local public health authorities to explore and identify avenues to detect, protect and respond in accordance with current recommendations and guidelines. For those unable to work from home, various measures are being taken within our facilities to keep our associates as safe as possible.
To protect our associates, Ascension upholds high risk accommodation and exemption processes around caring for COVID-19 patients. Currently there are vendor and visitor restrictions in place and mandatory screening processes for every person coming through the entrances of our facilities.
All associates are required to comply with mandatory screening upon entering an Ascension facility. For any positive screening, a nurse will review and assess the associate to determine if he/she is acutely ill. If acutely ill, the associate is sent home immediately and directed for further evaluation prior to returning. If at any point there is a concern that an associate may have been exposed, occupational health is immediately contacted and clearance is required to return to work.
If an associate contracts the virus through a work exposure, he/she will receive pay and benefit continuation. In such an instance, a worker’s compensation claim is submitted. If an associate contracts the virus through a community/social exposure, a short-term disability claim can be submitted and PTO may be used with advances available in certain circumstances.
When assessing the potential impact of COVID-19 on a new associate’s start date, the onboarding process is reviewed. To adhere with social distancing guidance per the CDC, Ascension is temporarily implementing alternative onboarding solutions where possible. Our aim is to maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of bringing on new team members during COVID-19 to support our patients and communities.
